The archipelago of the San Blas Islands, belongs to the region of Guna Yala or Kuna Yala, is one of the five indigenous regions of Panama, located off the north coast of the Isthmus. It is bordered to the south by the provinces of Emberá and Darién, and to the east by Colombia. The entire region has an area of approximately 2,300km², over a strip of land of 373 km, in addition to the 365 islands that are the subject of our post and that surround the coast. The islands are called Cayos.
The Guna are known for crafting the famous molas, a traditional weaving made of layers of elaborately colored fabrics that form patterns and images inspired by their cosmogenic beliefs.
