Are There ATMs or Wi-Fi in San Blas? Money and Internet Guide
Short answer: There are no ATMs, and Wi-Fi is practically nonexistent. And honestly, that’s part of the charm. So be prepared.
Money: Everything is paid in cash
In the Guna Yala region, everything is paid in cash (U.S. dollars):
- Entrance fee: $22 for foreigners / $7 for locals.
- Cold coconuts: $2–3. Beers: $2–4. Molas (Guna handicrafts): starting at $10.
- Fresh lobster (in season): $15–25 if you want to treat yourself.
Recommendation: Bring $40–60 per person in small bills, in addition to the entrance fee. $50 and $100 bills are hard to break on the islands.
Cell Phone Service
There’s intermittent service near some islands, but don’t count on it. Download maps, music, and everything you need before leaving the city.
What about Wi-Fi?
There isn’t any. Twelve hours without notifications, with your feet in the turquoise water—the digital detox you didn’t know you needed. You can upload your photos at night from your hotel.
One last tip
Let your family know you’ll be offline on the day of the tour, and turn on airplane mode to save battery for your photos.
